Some Comments from a Radical Christian

Rosie O’Donnell has recently become a cohost on ABC’s The View. Rosie got the spot of Meredith Vieira after she moved to NBC’s Today to replace Katie Couric who moved to CBS to anchor the Evening News (Confusing, isn’t it?).

Now, Rosie O’Donnell is a very liberal person, which is quite obvious just about anytime she opens her mouth. Like most liberals, she is no fan of President Bush, the war in Iraq, guns, et cetera, et cetera. No surprise there. But what I did find alarming was her opinion of Christianity, stated succinctly this week on The View.

According to NewsBusters, on Tuesday’s show, O’Donnell had this to say in response to remarks by Elisabeth Hasselbeck about the threat of radical Islam: “Just one second, radical Christianity is just as threatening as radical Islam in a country like America.” And shockingly, the audience applauded that statement! Unbelievable. You can see the video for yourself over at NewsBusters.

I don’t know how Rosie O’Donnell defines “radical Christianity,” but I suspect that I would fall into that category. After all, I attend church weekly, I pray daily, I rely on God for strength during difficult times, and I would like to see everyone come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. So I guess that makes me pretty radical.

But despite the fact that O’Donnell insulted me and my faith, I have no desire to don a mask, kidnap her, and behead her in front of a recording video camera. In all honesty, I have nothing but love for Rosie O’Donnell, and I pray that she experiences God’s grace and mercy. Most other professing Christians would probably say the same thing.

So, with all due respect, Rosie, you are wrong about Christians. Unlike the very real threat of Islamic terrorists, you have nothing to fear from followers of Jesus.
